NO TITLE
MAVIS sits at the front of the yacht while the people around her are enjoying themselves. Their lavish jewelry and bathing suits all glimmer in the sunlight. She is sipping on a glass of white wine with her nose stuck in the air, watching younger actors flirt shamelessly with up and coming actresses. Other people are around the yacht in the water, splashing around and having fun swimming.
A group of three young women are huddled together. They peek over their sunglasses at the eye candy on the ship until their eyes land on the older woman.
GIRL 1:
(scoffs; voice of disgust)
Can you believe her? Showing up to a party for stars. She should’ve stayed home to practice her lines.
GIRL 2:
(malicious teasing)
Maybe we’ll get lucky and she’ll get lost at sea. I could always play the mother.
GIRL 2 stands tall and brushes her fingers along her cheek, appreciating her own imagination. The last girl snorts and shoves her, they all start bickering.
Their bickering gets cut off by and EAR SPLITTING scream of a young girl. Everyone in the water starts screaming and swimming towards the yacht. One by one people are coming back on.
First a girl is sobbing, she’s mumbling and her makeup is running while crying about her fingers. All of them are perfectly intact.
Another person comes on also shaken and confused- angry. Girls and guys all come back on.
GUY FROM WATER 1:
(angrily)
Someone stole my watch!
GIRL FROM WATER 1:
(sobbing mess)
My fingers! M-My fingers are bare! Where’s my rings?!
GUY FROM WATER 2:
(embarrassed)
(He’s covering up as much as he can) Something took my trunks!
GIRL FROM WATER 2:
(shakingly)
S-S-Sh-Shark! It was a shark! (She’s shaking from the cold) I-I saw it! It took every-everything! My diamond earrings- They’re gone!
Another scream from the water makes MAVIS stand up at the rail and look over. Her eyebrow is raised and she swirls her wine in her glass. Everyone crowds around to see another girl still in the water. She’s flailing her arms desperately.
GIRL IN WATER:
(desperately)
H-Help! Shark! I-It’s trying to eat me!
She continues screaming until someone ropes her in, pulling her to the safety of the yacht. She’s checking herself over for all her limbs and gasps.
GIRL IN WATER (CONT’D)
My prada bracelet. It stole my prada bracelet!
MAVIS watches as the dimwitted cast members freak out. She grumbles and rolls her eyes before slowly strutting away to the back of the yacht. Taking a sip of her wine. She gets stopped by a rough hand on her shoulder spinning her around. One of the girls that were mocking her early is now GLARING at her.
GIRL 1:
(shrilly)
And where are you going!?
MAVIS eyes the hand still on her shoulder and plucks it off roughly. She steps close to the girl to whisper in her ear.
MAVIS:
(menacingly)
Careful. The shark would love a pretty girl like you.
MAVIS walks off and takes a sip of her wine, heading to the back of the yacht into a backroom. There’s a small bed, a fish tank, a table in the middle with one lone chair and a small dresser. There, a young man, PHIL, has items dumped onto the table with a soaking wet pillowcase draped over the chair.
PHIL doesn’t look back to see who it is, instead he makes room for his accomplice. It isn’t until the older woman is standing next to him does he spare her a look.
PHIL
(sternly)
Don’t say it. It’s all I could find.
PHIL moves to toss the pillowcase that’s burning under MAVIS’s glare in the corner of the room. She clears her throat and picks up a delicate looking diamond encrusted bracelet.
MAVIS:
So, does this quelch your.. Itchy fingers?
PHIL gives a wolfish grin and leans back against the table, his back to his treasures. He crosses his arms and is all ears.
PHIL:
Why? You have another treasure for me?
MAVIS clicks her tongue and sets down the bracelet. Her glass getting closer to her lips.
MAVIS:
Treasure? More like headache.
MAVIS takes one last drink from her glass. PHIL teasingly twists his face up in pain.
PHIL:
(mockingly)
Oo, Ouch!
He pushes off of the table before heading towards the door.
PHIL (cont’d)
I guess I could sacrifice a little for you. You’re lucky we’re a good team. These girls out here are expensive.
MAVIS:
(snaps)
We aren’t a team. You’re just a puppet.
PHIL:
A puppet. A shark. What’s the difference? (a small pause) Don’t get lonely without me, Mavs.
PHIL playfully winks before exiting the room. You can hear him howling for fun while he’s gone until it goes silent. The only sound left a clink of MAVIS’s wine glass on the table. She walks over to the small fish tank and opens up the bottom compartment. Shoveling the jewelry and clothing into the secret stash.
MAVIS hides everything and the room looks normal. She stares at the fish tank with the one fish inside. She crouches down and gives the fish an empty nasty look.
MAVIS:
Now don’t say a word. Or I’ll feed you to the shark too.
MAVIS struts out of the room.
